To celebrate the success of the series, we’re releasing this Gold edition, which not only gives you the game, the expansion, and all the free content we added along the way, but we’re adding three new playable characters – The Hiver Warrior, the Liir Seeker, and the Morrigi Striker! Now you can test yourself against The Pit using all the major races from the Sword of the Stars universe! If you don't mind just ignoring those, I'd recommend you give it a try.ĮDIT: And no, mods don't prevent achievements.Since its first demo was released in the Fall of 2012, The Pit has become an indie hit with its blend of Roguelike action and sci-fi depth! Players were challenged to survive 30 floors of The Pit using one of three characters – the Marine, the Engineer, and the Scout – then in The Pit: MindGames players were given two new characters – the Psion and the alien Tarka Ranger – and ten more floors to survive through, as well as a wealth of new items, recipes, weapons, and nasty creatures to fight! The downside to the FaxPax is that it does add a new line of beverages, almost all of which are quite OP both in terms of the mana they give and the price they fetch from the store. Some of the skills in the FaxPax are pretty well balanced too, but the Dragon Aspirant skill lines as well as the Avenging Executioner have always felt very OP to me.
Extra potions sorta fixes that.Īs for skill lines, Compleat Essential Skills is a REALLY well balanced skill set (the mod maker, Essense, worked on the Balance Overhaul mod and feels that well balanced content is really important).
In other words, Alchemy in the base game is super useful early, but becomes fairly useless later on, especially with the xpacs. While this mod does add MUCH more powerful potions, they are fairly expensive to craft, require high levels of alchemy, and they add an "end game" to alchemy that didn't exist before. That being said, the items you can craft from these mods that are OP are very hard to craft and often require extremely rare components.
The nice part of this pack is that the creator of this mod, r_b_bergstrom, made most of the new rooms for the YHtNtEP official expansion, so the guy has a REALLY good idea on how to make interesting, challenging, balanced rooms.Īs a side note, if you don't craft, at all, the amount of power creep caused by these two mods is MUCH less. The Witcher skill line, in particular, is especially OP. That's not to say it's not OP, it is, very much so, but it also makes you squishy as fuck, so while you're a walking cannon, you're made of glass. Radient Wizard is the only one that ever felt really balanced.
This pack also comes with some skill lines which, IMO are all pretty OP. The most balanced one, IMO, is Roguish Renovation. Most of them favor the player, but also add power to the game too, so if you get a decently balanced one, the new, better stuff you're going to getting should be at least somewhat balanced by harder rooms, tougher monsters, new monsters, scarier traps, etc. Okay, so most of the item packs/room packs have at least a bit of power creep.
